High school athletes who were preparing to take on the world, believing they would become stars. Turned out, at the next level, at least, they did. The ultimate plane for each remains a work in progress.
Granted, we’re not talking about ancient history — though, for Markelle Fultz, the teen in the picture with the short hair, those days at DeMatha Catholic High School might seem like eons ago.
Since his time at DeMatha, Fultz shined for one season as a guard for the University of Washington’s basketball team and was selected first overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2017 NBA Draft. But he played only 33 games over his first two seasons in Philly because of a mysterious injury, before a trade landed him in Orlando ahead of the 2019-20 season.
